 Stormwater Coordination

Stormwater pollution prevention helps to protect the region’s fragile desert environment. PAG’s Stormwater Management Working Group coordinates stormwater outreach and education efforts. These efforts help both the public and private sector meet permitting requirements.

Jurisdictions and the construction industry are permitted under the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Arizona Pollution Elimination Discharge System.

A couple of education efforts include a comprehensive stormwater education campaign during the monsoon season and a construction industry seminar on permitting and stormwater pollution prevention.

The monsoon season campaign is in its fourth year. The campaign includes brochure distribution, displays within Sun Tran buses, at bus shelters, benches and billboards, in addition to radio advertisements.

PAG continues to educate construction professionals about permit compliance and best management practices for arid regions. The half-day educational seminar provides opportunities to learn about the ADEQ permitting process, allowable and non-allowable discharges, best management practices, and to discuss stormwater issues with jurisdictional representatives.
